Fully Wireless Building Proposal for TLJHS
Overlapping wireless coverage using the same SSID but different Channels will allow laptops to move from room to room and the commons while maintaining their network connection. Protect network access by moving back to a PreShared Key.
Currently school has 3 wireless routers and 2 access points.
To cover the 200 hallway I suggest 4 access points, 1 in office, 1 in library, 1 in Rm103, 2 in hallway 300, 1 on each cart for printer. Leaves room 500 on edge of wirless.
1 access point Room 206 NW corner to cover 206 and 204
1 access point Room 202 Nw corner to cover 202 and 200
1 access point Room 205/207 SE corner depending on easy network access
1 access point Room 203 SW corner to cover 203 and 201
1 access point above office should cover all that area
1 access point in Room 103 SE corner might cover 101, 103, 105 for low number of machines
1 access point Room 300 SE corner to cover 300 and 302
1 access point Room 303 NW corner to cover 301 and 303, 303 being used more
1 access point left in library to serve when cart is gone and help cover commons
I suggest leaving 1 router attached to each cart to server as additional access point when ALL laptops are in 1 room and to serve as a printer connection, otherwise Print server is needed at a high cost than the routers.
11 total access points. 6 needed at $50/ unit… $300

Each unit has 14 channels so Unique channels through out building possible.
Pros: Being able to use laptops in more than 1 room during times of light use. Allowing administrators with laptops to roam through building, providing coverage in commons for conference events. Teachers can use single laptop in room on short notice for demonstrations without need of cords or wired connections.
Cons: Laptop use MUST be monitored by multiple teachers and laptops returned to cart neatly after use. Dropping hazard in hallways if teachers send students without supervision. Teachers must make sure all laptops are returned to the cart.
