Event Dates and Hours
The August 16, 2008 event is the first of three happenings and this first time will be tentative and exploratory. Out team will be holding similar events around the full moons of Sept & Oct, so that provides a kind of rain date, though without the eclipse. Those dates will be “cheated” a little ahead of the true full moon so as to fall on Sundays... September 14, and October 12.
On the day of the first event, the experience will begin at low tide, around 2:15 PM and there will be dance exploration on the tidal flat and a very remarkable bay beach to explore. Sunset, moonrise, and high tide will all happen right around 8:00 PM. For now, suffice to say that our event will be all afternoon on Sat, Aug 16, on the beach near Floyd Bennett Field, climaxing with a spectacular sunset into NY Harbor at the same time as the moon rises, in a state of eclipse, out of Jamaica Bay and a very high tide rushes in. There will be a combination of dance performance, industrial archaeology, and Nature study... with plenty of photo opportunities. There is no rain date, so there does exist the possibility of weather blowing the event.
Hearty folk will spend the entire afternoon, into the evening there, but there will be various events at various times, so one might choose to spend more or less time, up to 7 hours, out on a very special beach. Some folks may choose to visit in the afternoon, hike a bit, then return for the sunset and eclipse/moonrise.
