Major Giving Initiative
Wharton Crew is rolling out the Major Giving Initiative in 2009 in order to promote the future economic health of the club. In the short term, we are collecting donations to fund Wharton Sprints, repair the Palmer to operability (1 of 2 racing shells that the club owns), and fund our movement to a new boathouse. The club’s existence is at a precarious point due to the pending boathouse move and are in great need of support from our alumni to continue to exist as a club. In normal years, donations go to support equipment maintenance and repair, racing and boathouse fees, as well as a new shell and launch boat fund. When available, additional funds support coaching fees, team transport to races, alumni races and social gatherings.
Donations:
$25k and up: Coach’s Circle
Boat naming privileges (speak to sponsorship captain: whartoncrew@wharton.upenn.edu)
$10k: Captain’s Circle

Team sponsorship: sponsor name on team unit-suits
$5k: Stroke’s Seat

Club Description and Mission
The Wharton Crew team consists of MBA students, their partners, professors, and other graduate and professional students at the University of Pennsylvania. We are an extra-curricular club that is dedicated to providing recreational, athletic and competitive rowing opportunities to our members. We row in two team-owned Master’s 8-Person shells.
Rowing is one of the most distinctive and rewarding experiences MBAs and graduate students can have at Wharton. Not only does Philadelphia offer one of the finest rowing venues in the world, but there are many resources in the forms of classmates and community which can enable members to become a competent rower (regardless of the rower’s current level). The club trains many novice men and women who have never set foot in a boat, while also providing a competitive environment for experienced rowers and coxswains.
Wharton Crew provides members of the Wharton Community an opportunity to row. Its specific goals are to:
Provide opportunities for physical training and camaraderie
Introduce novices to crew and provide them the opportunity to learn to row or be a coxswain
Provide a competitive environment for experienced rowers and coxswains
Provide an outlet for learning and practicing leadership and teamwork
Provide a social outlet for rowing enthusiasts
