Outreach Cluster 11-08
From
Karen Aaker, PCD District Representative:
*Pacific Central District – UUA News • December 2008*
The PCD Anti-racism, Anti-oppression, Multi-culturism working group I
chair has presented a proposal that the PCD board adopt a new and
permanent PCD /Racial and Multicultural Committee/ modeled on the
current PCD Growth committee.
*Our goals* for setting up a District Committee rather than our PCD
Board working group include:
1. To elevate the work and increase its visibility
2. To allow a more dedicated focus on the work than our often
over-committed Board members can provide on a consistent basis
3. To avoid the kind of turnover that is linked to limited Board terms
4. Since such committees are typically chaired by clergy, to increase
ministerial involvement in this work across the district, which is so
critical to this work
5. To involve more people from more congregations
*Our proposed charter* is to dismantle prejudice and promote diversity
in our congregations by:
(a) Providing information and encouragement to congregations to take on
this work;
(b) Encouraging participation in programs and events that support this
work; and,
(c) Offering resources and consultation services to advance this work.
*UUA* *Association Sunday-* Our Fellowship raised $237 in contributions
on October 19 to support the work of the Pacific Central District and
our Unitarian Universalist Association of congregations.
We are an example to others in our district.
One of the goals of the PCD is to increase the involvement of youth in
congregational life. I have invited Lee Maranto, our wonderful YRUU
teacher/advisor along with several UCSC students who have visited our
services recently and would like to be involved to participate with me
in the *PCD Young Adult Ministry Conference *and the* PCD YRUU Advisor
Training Conference, *both happening in December.
Welcoming, Fred Seamon, nothing new.

Guest at Our Table is to start soon.
$50 collected fully for Naomi Klein event. Now $200.
Pastors for Peace event, collection pending.
Against Prop. 8, we donated $773.
Green Sanctuary progressing nicely.
ISSP ongoing at the shelter. Deborah.
UUSC Holiday cards coming soon.
SAC to work on priorities and what they want to focus on in the near and far future. Want to establish what engages the Fellowship as a whole as well as the SAC. Brian would like to have a SAC service with a workshop rather than just a lecture. Issues of inside social justice work rather than focusing as much on the outside activists.
Possibly changing the name of the committee from Social Action to Social Justice which is the real goal of this committee.
Membership, no report as of 11-17-08
