Greetings fellow Democrats of San Francisco District 3!

Congratulations on the biggest Democratic landslide in decades! We now have a Democrat in the White House and majorities in the Senate, House, State Senate, State Assembly and a progressive Democratic majority on the SF Board Supervisors. Despite all the difficulties faced by San Francisco, California, the US and the planet we can finally have trust in our leadership and hope for the future. Hope springs eternal from our President Obama. The daily announcements from the White House come at a staggering pace and each time the decision and direction are well thought out, clear and more often than not right on the money.

Looking back over the last year, I am also happy to report the District 3 Democratic Club had the following achievements:

Most recently, we had a very special “A Talk with Aaron Peskin: Reflections and Looking Ahead” event. The club recognized Supervisor Peskin for his 8 years of service to the District and City. Clearly, no other elected official worked harder and got more results over the past 8 years. That kind of effort not only comes from a great work ethic but a fundamental caring for the city and its well being. The attendees that night clearly appreciated all Aaron has done for the community and the guest of honor treated the audience to a fantastic monologue of memories, reflections and insights followed by an audience Q&A. A write up on that event will be covered by Tony Long in our newsletter later this year.

All of this wouldn’t be possible without a great team and we do have one. So, I would like to recognize the Board. This year we have added Emily Salgado who was most recently the Campaign Manager for Chris Jackson’s successful Community College Board election run. Meanwhile Nancy Payne Lewis, Kiril Dobrovolsky and Kay Burke will be leaving us as Treasurer, Corresponding Secretary and Voter Registration Chair respectively. We’re very grateful to all of them, especially Nancy and Kay who have been involved and contributing to the club for years. Thank you!

Moving forward we have the following Board:

We have an exciting year of events planned. Most immediately we’re looking forward to two events: On April 23rd we are holding a joint meeting featuring Senator Mark Leno on the California Universal Health Care Act and co-sponsored by four of our fellow Democratic Clubs. On April 29th we will be joined by our new Supervisor and Board President, David Chiu.

I urge you to join or renew with the club. We recently conducted a survey and we’re one of the more affordable Democratic clubs in the city and we feel we’re best value for the money. To join or renew, please please download a membership form here. Thank you!

Sincerely,
Paul Kohler
