The Effects of Different Music Genres on Driving Behavior
Amy Piacente
The intention of this study is to find relationships between specific genres of music and the presence of certain driving behaviors. Studies show that varying music genres lead to differences in physiological, cognitive, and behavioral responses. The purpose of this study is to show that certain genres of music will have different effects on a person’s ability to drive. This study will be conducted through a local corporation on employees and their commutes to and from work. Levels of hostility will be measured via the State Hostility Scale, and driving attitudes and music preferences will be measured via additional questionnaires. Actual driving behaviors will be measured using video and event recording devices. While this study will look at correlations between specific genres of music and items such as speed and law-breaking behaviors, focus will be on the correlation between the music genre and amount of g-force maneuvers that are detected.
