INTEGUMENTARY SYSTEM LAB OBJECTIVES

Identify the following structures on the skin models

• Epidermis, including the stratum basale, stratum spinosum, and stratum corneum. (classify the tissue*)

• Dermis (including the the papillary layer with the dermal papillae, and the reticular layer); note the location of dense irregular C.T. and areolar C.T.

• Subcutaneous layer (adipose tissue on the model)

• Blood vessels 

• Sweat glands (classify the tissue)

• Hair: shaft, root, and hair follicle, including the bulb and papilla

• Arrector pili muscle (classify tissue)

• Sebaceous gland (classify tissue)

• Meissner’s corpuscles (light touch receptors)

• Pacinian corpuscle (pressure receptors)

*classify tissues based on your knowledge of histology gained from lecture and lab (be specific, e.g. "stratified squamous epithelium")
