Minutes of the Sacramento Valley Returned Peace Corps Volunteers’ Board Meeting
October 2, 2007

Members absent: Fran Kennedy, Steve Riggs, Bruce Sandie, Heidi Steger
1. Minutes of the September meeting
-add Mark to those in attendance
-in number 2 take out from the bank and another from the IRS
-add that the tax exempt status needs to be done yearly (Mark will do it on Line)
-#9 add with a calendar of upcoming events
minutes were approved with the above corrections
2. Treasurer’s Report
-$30 of income
-$880 of expenses
-balance $$1,927.49
3. Golden 1 needs minutes from the October meeting with current officers in order for us to
change banks.
4. American River Clean Up
-a good event with good weather
-about 9 RPCVs attended with a total of about 40 people
5. Review of Annual Meeting
-a low turnout (12 RPCVs, a total of 19 people)
-speaker was canceled due to low turnout at 5 PM (wanted an audio visual person and
thought she was receiving an honorarium)
-Audrey wrote a letter to Leisa stating that we wanted the money to be used for medical
or school supplies
-revisit the date and location for the next annual meeting due to the low turnout -
perhaps do a phone tree set of calls to remind people of the event
6. Membership and Recruitment
-how to get more people involved
-Harris directory - on disk if people submitted their names
-telephone calls do bring people out to functions
-recruit some active non board members to help with the phone calls
-PC training films are available from Janet or Nicole in San Francisco - thinking about
showing them at the midwinter dinner
-list our events for free in the “Inside” publications
-check with the Sacramento Bee to see if they will list events for free
-at the November meeting - put together a list of callers for the mid winter-dinner
-Nicole and Janet talked about having a brochure for local events
-CSUS has events with a recruiter on October 23rd, 24th, and 25th
7. Adventures in Dining
-Sept. 21st - Russian food - 11 people attended - food was so so
-October 19th
-Faith and Audrey will find a location
-possibilities - Czech place on J Street, go to Davis, Max’s of Manila

8. Christmas Promise - December 8th
-11:30 - three signed up
-1:30 - 4 signed up
9. International Calendars
-available for sale at $10 each
10. Possible Community Service Projects
-National Public Radio
-run a blood drive
-check with Hands on Sacramento
11. Project Funding Ideas
-Ashoka Foundation - social entrepreneurship
-Finca - village banking (villagebanking.com) - problem is that you need to send
$1,000 to be connected to a project
-KIVA - we make a loan to be paid back (kiva.org) - Faith will look into it for the next
meeting
12. Items for E-News
-October 22th - Howard Koons - has photos on display at the Club Car Restaurant in Auburn
-Yvonne Clinton’s daughter, Butterscotch, took 3rd place in the TV show America’s Got Talent
