7. PEACE CORPS DAY WAS MARCH 1 – 7 RPCVs talked about
their experiences at various schools the first week in
March.
Stephen, Mona and Aisha McCord report that they will
not be able to join us for either the Goat Roast or
the Campout. Instead, for some strange reason, they
traveling the globe. The person they had lined up to
house-sit didn't pan out.

Question: They live in the Davis community. Should
you know of anyone who could help them out, please
give them a shout at 530 759-8689 or
jibagan@hotmail.com. They'd prefer a house-sitter,
but maybe would settle for someone to just keep Rover
happy while they're gone.

Volunteers Needed to Host International Visitors
The Northern California World Trade Center is applying
to be the local host for the International Visitor
Leadership Program (IVLP). The IVLP is a State
Department-funded program that brings future foreign
leaders to the United States. We are seeking to
develop a list of volunteers in the Sacramento region
who are interested in promoting citizen diplomacy -
improving international relations "one handshake at a
time." The international visitors spend two to three
weeks in our country, visiting various cities in the
U.S. They learn about a variety of topics, depending
on their professional experience and interests. The
goal of the program is to promote improved relations
between the U.S. and our overseas partners. Volunteers
are needed to provide "home hospitality" to
international visitors. This means inviting visitors
to your home for a meal, or inviting them out to
dinner, or taking them to a concert, art gallery
event, or a Kings or Rivercats game. You will be
helping the visitors get to know Americans on an
individual basis. For more information, please visit
http://exchanges.state.gov/education/ivp/. For
information on the Northern California World Trade
Center, please visit http://www.norcalwtc.org. If you
are interested, please call or e-mail Michele Gault
and provide your name, e-mail address, and phone
number. See contact info below.

12. Take Your Business Global! Learn about
opportunities for selling your products or services
internationally at the NCWTC's "Exporting
Fundamentals" seminar, March 8, 2007 from 9 a.m. to 12
noon. More info
am writing to you as an RPCV (Mozambique '01-'03) and
a filmmaker. Right now, I am in the graduate film
production program at USC. One subject that I am
exploring is the process of an RPCV’s readjustment to
the US after two years away. How do we reconnect with
family, friends, and reestablish life upon return?
How have our experiences at site changed our
perspectives on life back home?

I don't remember where I heard it but there was a
joke/maxim that went around. It described the
stereotypical state in which volunteers returned from
the region of the world in which they served. It went
something like: volunteers that served in Latin
America return revolutionaries, the world is for the
taking, viva la revolucion and all Che. On the side
of the world, volunteers that served in Asia return
zen, at peace, taking gentle steps in the world. And
finally, volunteers who serve in Africa return cynics.

If you’re interested, I am looking for RPCVs in and
around the LA, southern California area. I would be
delighted to talk to you about your unique experiences
as a PCV and as an American returning home.

Sincerely,

Pip Satchell
