No need for down time in New Media.  Here are some ideas for things to do.  Every day you should be actively researching a long-range story for print, learning how to use publishing software, studying how to be a better student journalist, working on a multimedia story, or publishing on Youth Voices.

  1. Work on your monthly story for the paper. It should have multiple sources, be well-researched and tell readers things they don't know.
  2. Proofread someone else's story.
  3. Shoot video and edit it into a story for JMTV.
  4. Record audio and edit that into a podcast for Judge Radio.
  5. Learn how to use PhotoShop, Illustrator, or InDesign using the books in the Media room.
  6. Work on selling an ad.
  7. Voiceover stories.  Find some footage and record an audio track to help tell a story.
  8. Read a post on Youth Voices, comment on it
  9. Go to your Google Reader account.  Write a post on Youth Voices about what you've been reading today.
  10. Go to Google Reader. Localize a national or international story.
  11. Complete a Poynter News University lesson
