Movin’ On Up
Have you ever had those moments when you know God is asking you to make a change in your life for no apparent reason? You are comfortable where you are. You are content with what you are doing. You feel close to the Lord and confident in your life. Suddenly, out of the blue, God asks you to move. The “move” He may ask of you may be something as basic as rearranging a few of your priorities, or as complex as packing up and moving to a mystery location.
“Why, God? I am comfortable here. I have been through so many hurts and struggles since I have been here. I have finally overcome them and You were the one that helped me through it. I like it here now. Why do I need to move again? What could you possibly have for me there that I don’t have here? I don’t want to move.”
Why do I so often question God’s judgment? Do I think I can somehow see things more clearly than our God who is All-Knowing? In my mind I know that my thoughts and reasoning can’t even begin to come close to comprehending the full picture that God can see, but my heart is often clouded with fear and frustration. He has shown me time and time again that He truly knows and wants what is best for me. Yet here I sit, complaining to God, while He is tenderly trying to guide me forward.
Is God asking you to move something or somewhere? Do you feel Him tugging on your heart saying, “I have something even better for you up ahead”? Maybe God is asking you to begin your devotions earlier or start an accountability group with some friends. Maybe He is asking you to teach a Sunday school class, or maybe He is asking you to stop teaching. Perhaps He is calling you to be a missionary overseas, or asking you to spend one more night a week at home with your family. As comfortable as we may feel at the moment, we are all a work in progress. Every day that passes brings us a step closer to the everlasting place that He has prepared for us to move in. Don’t miss the daily opportunities that He is calling us to.
What is God asking of you today?
Will you move?
Will you follow?
My prayer for all of us this month (myself included) is that we follow God’s leading as never before. That as the fears and frustrations of change come up, we turn them immediately over to God for Him to turn them into strength and confidence.
“Show me Your ways, O Lord; teach me Your paths. Lead me in Your truth and teach me, for You are the God of my salvation; on You I wait all the day.” – Psalm 25:4-5 (NKJV)
