Sutter Serving on Industry Sustainability Committee
Dr. Lawrence Sutter is serving on the American Concrete Institute (ACI) Strategic Development Council (SDC) committee to draft a Road Map to Sustainability for the concrete industry. He is working on the Environmental Footprint Task Group that will i) assemble the historical data regarding advances made towards decreasing the environmental impact of cement and concrete production and use over the last 50 years, ii) identify areas of immediate and long-term impact for further reducing the environmental foot print of the industry, and iii) identify and develop strategies to accomplish a reduction of the environmental foot print of the industry. The SDC goal is to have a draft road map for review by all stakeholders by June 2008.
Dr. Sutter specializes in materials characterization, cement and concrete chemistry, concrete durability, and industrial residual reuse in concrete. Current projects include: research on the effects of deicing chemicals used on roads, coal fly ash specifications, and concrete mix design optimization. He is the Director of the Michigan Tech Transportation Institute and the Facility for Non-Conductive/ Volatile Materials.
