Before Big Group

1. Explain the following, writing the big idea below on the chalk/wipe board:

The big idea for today is "Nobody's perfect." We'll find out more about what this means in big group time.

2. Explain/ask the following: "Imagine you met someone who has never, ever made a sandwich before. How would you describe to them how to make a peanut butter sandwich?" As the children respond, write down (or have a child do it) the steps they describe on the piece of paper. Encourage them to be as thorough as they need to be. If you have the necessary ingredients, have the children perform each step as they describe it. Bring this paper with you to small group time.

After Big Group

1. Explain the following:

Our big idea for today is "Nobody's perfect, except Jesus."  From the time he was a little kid up until the day he died, Jesus followed God's commands in the Bible perfectly. He never once disobeyed. However, we cannot say the same thing about anybody else because we all have disobeyed God at one point or another.

Disobeying God is called sin. We're going to look at God's word to us, the Bible, and see what it says about sin.

2. For each of the questions and puzzles listed below, first ask the children the question and then lay out the corresponding puzzle. Have the children assemble the puzzle together and read the verse. Using the verse, guide them to the answer to the question you asked.

Question: Who has sinned? (Puzzle #1)

Question: What is the penalty for sin? (Puzzle #2)

Question: Who died to save us from our sins? (Puzzle #3)

Question: How can we be saved from our sins? (Puzzle #4)

3. Hand each child a journal page. Have them fill it out, writing down the big idea "Nobody is perfect, except Jesus.'” and how they can use it in their life (Examples: I can believe Jesus died for my sins.) Place the page in their journal binder.
