"Blessed Are The Peacemakers”

Big Idea

Be a peacemaker, not a peacebreaker.

Verse

Matthew 5:9 - "Blessed are those who make peace. They will be called sons of God." (NIrV)

Materials

One pair of each of the following: 1. Sweatpants or tights   2. Boxer shorts   3. Boots

4. Tank top   5. Beach towel   6. Winter hat   7. Bandana   8. Sunglasses                

Setup

Write the verse on the chalk/wipe board. Have the following items in a bag/box near the teaching area.

Activity

1. Read through the verse as a group once.

2. Explain the following:

    Our big idea today is "Be a peacemaker, not a peacebreaker." This verse shows us that the sons and daughters of God show who they are by making peace around them, not picking fights or arguments.

    Some peacemakers we talked about earlier are superheroes. As we learn our verse, we're going to help one of you look more and more like a superhero.

 

3. Select a volunteer to come up front. Repeat the following steps:

    1. Read through the verse as a group. 2. Erase one word of the verse. 3. Have your volunteer put on one item of clothing (put them on in the order they are mentioned above).

    Continue until all the items of clothing have been worn. Erase the words left on the board, and repeat the verse with the group.
