OT-42

"The Tabernacle, the Ark, and the Priests”

Exodus 25:10-22, 26:1-37, 28:1-2, 41

Big Idea

God is holy: perfect and special.

Schedule

1. Small Groups: dish activity (5 min)

2. Big Group: Lesson (20 min)

3. Verse Activity: Limbo activity (5 min)

3. Small Groups: Index card activity (10-15 min)

Materials Needed

-plastic dish/cup/plate

-expensive appearing dish/cup/plate

-piece of paper and pencil

-index cards with the following words/phrases written each on their own card:

Money, Time, God's name, Words, Things We're Good At,

Before Big Group

1. Place the two dishes in front of the children. Ask, "If you had to carry these dishes from one end of the room to the other, would you treat them differently? Why or why not?" Explain the following:

You'd, of course, be a lot more careful with the nice dish. To begin, if you dropped it, it'd break, unlike the plastic cup. Also, it's a lot more valuable than the plastic cup, so you treat it with special care.

2. Ask, "What are some special items in your house: items you've set apart to only use on special occasions?" Select a child to be the recorder. Instruct him/her to write down each of the children's answers on the piece of paper. Bring this paper with you to big group.

After Big Group

1. Explain the following:

Our big idea for today is "God is holy: perfect and special." God never, ever does anything wrong. Because of this, we should treat him special from others.

2. Place the index cards in a pile, face down. One at a time, place an index card on the table in front of the children and ask the children how we can use what's written on the card to treat God special. For each card, have a child write the word(s) at the top of a sheet of paper, and write the children's suggestions below it.

3. Hand each child a journal page. Have them fill it out, writing down the big idea “God is holy: perfect and special” and how they can use it in their life (Examples: I can treat God's name as special and not use it lightly.) Place the page in their journal binder.
