Big Idea

Be full of thanks, not complaints.

Verse

Philippians 2:14 - "Do everything without arguing or complaining."

Materials

-chairs

-CD player and CD

Setup

1. Set up a circle of chairs, with the chairs facing out. There should be one less chair than there are children.

Activity

1. Read through the verse as a group once.

2. Explain the following:

Our big idea today is "Be full of thanks, not complaints." This verse tells us that, in everything we do, we need to do it without arguing or complaining.

To practice this verse while we learn it at the same time, we'll play a game of musical chairs. And regardless of whether we win or lose, we can do it without complaining.

3. Each time you read through the verse as a group, do the following: erase one word of the verse from the board. Play one round of musical chairs, having the children walk around the chairs as you play music and attempting to sit down when the music stops. The child who doesn't find a seat is out.  Repeat until all the words of the verse have been erased, removing a chair each time. If you wish, the child who was last eliminated can start and stop the CD player.
