White Plains, NY, August 6, 2008 — The Energy Fair Picnic at Bryant Gardens will introduce the Co-Op's two-year "Growing Green" plan to reduce energy consumption and promote environmental conservation. The Fair will take place at the Playground, rain or shine, from 2:00-5:00 pm on Saturday, August 9, with picnicking on the lawn and energy-related events under the tent.

Experts will be on hand from Hudson Valley Energy Consultants (HVEC), Con Edison, NYSERDA's EmPower New York and its Home Performance
with ENERGY STAR Programs, the engineering firm of Werner Tietjen, P.E., and others.  Fair-goers will be treated to drinks, snacks, and entertainment by an energetic clown.

Energy Experts.  Bryant Gardens residents, and visitors from other neighborhoods, will learn about energy audits from HVEC, which specializes in independent, unbiased audits for homeowners and small businesses. HVEC is a New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) Partner under the Home Performance with ENERGY STAR Program. That program offers incentives and low-interest financing to qualified homeowners for energy efficiency home improvements.

Aladdin Tables.  Bryant Gardens residents will be able to exchange two incandescent light bulbs for two compact fluorescent bulb at the Fair, where they will see and feel the difference between incandescent and fluorescent lighting. They'll also be able to sign up for a future exchange of additional lighting.

Residents and visitors, too, will find out if they qualify for NYSERDA's
EmPower New York Program, which offers audits, training, lighting and refrigerator replacement at no cost to income-qualified Con Edison customers in multi-family residences. Residents who don't qualify under the EmPower Program may be eligible for a refrigerator exchange under Bryant Gardens' NYSERDA-subsidized Energy Reduction Plan.

Growing Green.  A presentation kiosk will summarize Bryant Gardens Energy Reduction Plan, which will include (a) upgrades to the physical plant (windows, insulation, lighting, heating and hot water systems), (b) efficiency measures for residents, such as removing window air-conditioners in winter and using water flow reducers, and (c) lighting and refrigerator replacements for residents. Engineers from the firm of Werner Tietjen, P.E. and Home Performance with ENERGY STAR experts will answer questions about the plan.

Bryant Gardens invites its neighbors in White Plains to COME TO THE FAIR!
